Balancing Motherhood and Design Deadlines: Lessons from the Studio & Home

As both a designer and a mom, I’ve learned that balance isn’t about having equal parts of everything — it’s about knowing what matters most in each moment. Some days that means finalizing design boards during nap time. Other days it means closing my laptop early to make pancakes for dinner and laugh with my girls.

Motherhood has taught me flexibility — the ability to shift gears when plans change and to see beauty in imperfection. Those lessons spill into my work every day. In design, just like in parenting, things rarely go exactly as planned, but the outcome can still be extraordinary if you stay adaptable and present.
Running a business from home means my daughters see the behind-the-scenes moments — the sketches, the samples, the late-night emails. I hope they also see the joy. Because the truth is, while deadlines come and go, the real reward is knowing I’m creating a business and a life they can be proud of.
To every parent trying to chase dreams and raise little ones at the same time: give yourself grace. Some seasons are messy, but they’re also the ones that make your story most meaningful.
