What My Daughters Taught Me About Color, Creativity, and Curiosity

If you’ve ever watched young kids play, you know they have a way of seeing the world that adults sometimes forget. My daughters, Reagan (4) and Riley (almost 3), remind me of that every day.

When they paint, they don’t question whether colors “match.” They just create — freely, joyfully, and with confidence. That same spirit influences how I approach design. It reminds me to experiment, to take risks, and to embrace combinations that feel unexpected but authentic.

They’ve also taught me the value of curiosity. Children naturally ask why — why this color, why that shape, why not try something new? That kind of wonder is the foundation of great design. It keeps creativity alive and helps me look at every project through a more imaginative lens.

But most of all, my girls have taught me that design, like parenting, is about connection. It’s about creating spaces that hold laughter, love, and little fingerprints — the kind that remind us what home truly means.
